Rental Cars We Provide
The Chinese rental cars we provide are well-maintained and low mileage (which in China means that they have somewhere between 30,000 – 40,000km). Most of our rental cars are Japanese-branded SUVs/4x4 cars such as those sold by Mitsubishi, Nissan or Toyota in China. They are manual gear-shift cars. If you would like an automatic gear-shift car, please Contact us.
Safety & Security
In general, China is an extraordinarily safe country. Unless we advise you otherwise during a journey, you can freely walk about in cities, towns and villages. People are friendly and mean no one any harm.
That said, petty theft is another matter. In order to minimise the likelihood of losing items, we recommend these simple measures:
- Do not take unnecessary valuables with you.
- A money belt, or something similar, worn close to your body is the best way to carry passports, airline tickets and money.
- DO NOT leave any valuables in ANY hotel room in China. Please use SAFETY DEPOSIT BOXES instead where available.
- Pickpockets operate everywhere, particularly in tourist areas and in crowded markets; you must always exercise care.
- Be aware that anything left lying around will also be liable to theft.
Sanitary Conditions on our Driving Journeys
Unless the description of one of our driving holiday packages says so otherwise, you will stay in hotels or inns that are, we assure you, very clean. They offer showers and seated toilets which are properly cleaned and are free of malodours.
During the day, when we drive from place to place, on the other hand, we cannot always guarantee the same. For gentlemen, this rarely represents a problem; any tree or bush will do. For ladies, we take on our driving holidays an outdoor toilet that makes it possible to relieve yourself without embarrassment.
Senior Adventures
There is no age limit to our driving holidays. So long as you satisfy yourself with your physician that high altitude is unlikely to be a problem for you (for those itineraries that go to high elevations), we are confident that our On the Road in China holidays will be one of the most wonderful adventure holidays you’ve had in your life.
Travelling with Children
On the Road in China driving holidays are perfectly safe for children (subject to the criteria spelled out regarding high altitudes for some of the itineraries).
In the end it depends on whether you are comfortable taking your children on a driving holiday which may involve some days of all-day in-car experiences.
One point to make is this: you may find that by taking your children on one of our adventure holidays in China you will be able to show your children – especially your teenage children – how happy and content children who are much less fortunate can be. They play with sticks and shoes and with each other in a way that is inspiring. In this sense, our China adventure holidays into the remote and rural China are a perfect way of exposing your children to a less affluent, yet no less content way of life. An adventure holiday for teenagers that provides a fresh perspective -- that is, in a way, an On the Road in China driving holiday.
